Why We Are Here

Bergruhe was born from the desire to make real getaways in the Alps accessible – far from the hustle, close to nature. Our goal is to offer guests a platform where they can find authentic huts, simple bookings, and reliable information.

  1. Authenticity Over Facade

We only work with hut operators who live on-site and know their region. Each accommodation is personally checked for cleanliness, location, and atmosphere.

    Guests experience genuine mountain culture.
  2. Thoughtful Simplicity

From search to confirmation: every step is clear and without unnecessary extras. We do away with pop-ups, hidden costs, and endless filters.

Bookings in just a few minutes.
  3. Respect for the Environment

A portion of each booking goes to local projects – trail maintenance, litter collection initiatives, and the preservation of alpine meadows. For us, sustainability is not a marketing tool but a mindset.

Nature remains intact for future generations.
  4. Commitment to Detail

Every hut description includes concrete details: exact directions, amenities, altitude, and the operator's contact information. No vague promises.

Guests know exactly what to expect in advance.

Our Story

From the first hut to a small brand – milestones that have shaped us.

2016

First hut on the Altenberg

Valerie Scharf buys a dilapidated alpine hut at 1,400 meters and renovates it on her own as an overnight accommodation for hikers. Three beds, a wood stove, and a well – that was all it took to get started.

2018

Two new locations

After two successful summers, the huts "Bergblick" and "Waldruh" are added. Both are located off the main trails and offer space for six guests each. Booking inquiries increase sharply.

2020

Year-round operation introduced

Previously only open in summer, we retrofit three huts with winter insulation and small stoves. The demand for quiet winter days in the snow exceeds all expectations – occupancy rises to over 80 percent.

2022

Team and first permanent employee

Laura Petrovic takes over guest care and on-site organization. With her, regular herb hikes and guided tours are established. Guests appreciate the personal atmosphere and tips off the beaten path.

2024

Awarded as a sustainable accommodation

The environmental seal "Alpine Green" is awarded to us for the use of solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and regional catering. Today, the huts are on average 75 percent occupied throughout the year.

Partners who trust us

For years, we have been working with selected providers who share our values: authentic nature experiences, quality, and hospitality in the mountains.

📍

Alpine Association South Tyrol

Together, we maintain over 40 km of hiking trails around the Maydena Mountain Cabins. The association supports us in trail maintenance and marking new routes.

🏔️

Karwendel Nature Park

As a certified partner of the nature park, we offer guided tours that introduce visitors to the local flora and fauna – always in harmony with the conservation ethos.

🍃

Biohotels Austria

Our cabins are members of the Biohotels association. This means regional cuisine, sustainable materials, and a conscious use of resources – from breakfast to bed linen.

🚠

Zillertal Cable Cars

With the Zillertal Cable Cars, we coordinate shuttle services and combo tickets so guests can easily travel from the valley station to our cabins – without their own car.

🌲

Achenkirch Forestry Office

The forestry office advises us on reforestation and forest maintenance around the cabins. Together, we focus on climate-resilient tree species and protect the old larch stands.
